In the Brooks tradition, our grips are made of natural leather, the same long wearing leather used for our saddle tops. Each grip is made with a stack of leather washers cut from the scrap of our saddle tops. These washers are held together by 3 spokes, enabling the grip to be adjusted to the desired length. The standard length of each grip is 130 mm, but each grip can be shortened to the desired length independently. The grips are delivered in a box containing shorter 80 mm spokes to make them even shorter.

Q > I have got a Dutch bike . Brand - Gazelle . The rubber ones are not as nice as yours & I want a pair of yours to match my Brooks seat . Will this fit a Gazelle ? Please let me know . Ps your seats are so hot, the absolute best.
A > Yes our grips would fit a Gazelle handlebar. Thank you for the nice compliment as well!
I love these grips. they're very confortable and give a nice look to the bike. Worth every cent.
I use these grips in the honey variety and would not esitate to recommend them to anybody not concerned with weight: they're so good and their design is so smart I cannot understand why Brooks didn't invent them one century ago :-) Q > Only... what would you recommend using for cleaning them? Their porous surface gets dirty quite easily.
A > Good question, but hard answer. Since they have not been available for 100 years, we don't really have an answer. We would recommend simply water.
These grips are so lovely! Could I fit them to a Pashley Princess Sovereign ?
answer - Yes, and thank you!
Saw a pair of these fitted to a Brompton at the Brompton World Championship yesterday. They really looked the bizz...
Q > I love my grips. I lost end cap due to crash, do you sell them separately?
A > Yes, through our dealers and distributors. Soon also online.
COMMENT > I have these grips and they are fantastic. The only problem I had is that I have lost the leather end-cap for one of them - is it possible to get a spare please?
REPLY > You can have a spare, it's just the wrong place to ask! Please use the claim from in the GETTING IN TOUCH section. Thanks :)
Q > Hello, could you tell me if the grips can be fitted to a Brompton with the traditional U-Bars? Thanks
A > Yes, I have a Brompton with M handlebar myself and I fitted the grips. You just need to shorten them, following the instructions which come in the box.
Q > Are your leather grips available in a shorter GripShift version?
A > The grips are made of a stack of washers and can be shortened to the desired length, so you can use them with GripShift.
Q > I was wondering if Brooks are considering making the grips if possible in green leather? It would be the perfect match for the B17 special green edition.
A > The grips are available in green! Just click on the arrow on the right of the colour options to view all colours!
Q > Are your grips 'lock-on'? If no, do you recommend using any adhesive when installed?
A > Yes, the two outer metal rings have bolts to lock them to the handlebar. No glue is required.
Q > can the leather discs, that the grips are made of, turn? of are they fixed to the grips? meaning if you use them on a motorcycle, can you use it fot throttle, or do you then just turn the leather discs on the grips"?
A > No, the washers don't turn because they are held together internally by 3 spokes.
Q > I have purchased and fitted a set of these grips. the problem is in the shorter size they are a little too short and if i cut the longer threads they will be a bit long. can i retread the longer spokes but have no experience of this. can you tell me the thread size and type and why the longer threads are not threaded so they provide the additional variety of length
A > You can rethread the spokes as normal bicycle spokes. You just need to find a bicycle shop that has the necessary equipment.
Q > I notice that your front page has a picture of these on a Brompton. Will they fit with no modifications?
A > You need to shorten them, but this is easy.
Q > Just wondering will these fit Brompton standard M bars?
A > Yes, they do if you shorten them.
Q > Will they fit a 26.0 mm bar?
A > No, they are designed onlu for standard 22 mm bars.
COMMENT > I am using the grips on my Brompton here in Washington, DC. They look great, but there is still a bit of movement. Are they supposed to be super-tight/immovable? I have tried to tighten them, but to no avail. Many thanks, Florian
REPLY > I also have the grips on my Brompton. You are right, the leather washers do move a little. You need to make sure that the other metal rings are well tight, because those are not supposed to move.
Q > I have flat bars with bar ends, can the grips still fit?
A > The grips are not made to bear bar ends, but we've seen people fitting them with our grips. We don't guaranteed the aesthetic result :)
Q > I'm not very practical when it comes to... well, anything really. Would an idiot like me be able to put these grips on to my Brompton given that they need to be shortened? Would I be better off using the bar tape?
A > It is a rather simple operation which I managed to do by myself on my Brompton. I'm not a technical guy either :)
Q > Hello, I used to have leather grips (not Brooks), but after a heavy rain shower and a long ride, my hands are as brown as the leather... Are the Brooks-grips resistant to rain???
A > No, they are not resistant to rain, but so far nobody has reported a problem of stain.
Q > I was curious how the honey grips match a honey saddle. it appears as if the lighter edge of the leather is the most visible bit on the grips, so if I'm looking to match a honey saddle, should I get brown grips? Also, a previous comment asked if they were weather resistant, but I just wanted to clarify - if these get left out in the rain, will they be damaged? I have a cover for my seat, and don't want to need one for my grips. Cheers, Luke
A > Water will not damage the grips. Regarding your other question it is a matter of taste.
What is the metal part of the grips made of... Cast iron? Aluminum? Stainless Steel?
answer>> Aluminium.
Will these lovely grips fit on a classic Raleigh Bicycle?
>> Yes, thank you!
Q>Hi there! Can you please tell me if these grips fit on a dahon roo bike? I have the standard dahon bar . On the left side there is a gear switch. thanx : ))
A> The width of the grip is adjustable to accommodate shifting mechanisms.
Q > I bought a pair of honey Leather Grips for my M3L Brompton but they seem to be large. What can I do? Thanks a lot, any comments or/and suggestions will be welcome. regards, ange
A > Follow the instructions to make them shorter. This is fairly easy.
Q > I was wondering if these brooks leather grips would fit the handle bars of the brompton M3L model. thanks
A > Yes, they fit, but you might have to shorten them.
Q > I want to put these grips on my motorcycle. What size are they?, would they fit?. Thank You
A > The grips fit a standard bicycle handlebar, which is 22.2 mm. You need to check the diameter of your handlebar.
Q > What is the inner diameter of these grips? A > The diameter is the standard 22 mm.
Q > Hallo dear Brooks people, I have a question rather than a comment: I 'm thinking of using your wonderful grips on my bike, but I'm a bit worried about how they will stand up to our very hot and humid (sometimes 90% plus) summer here in Tokyo. I imagine it would be very easy for mould to grow in and on the grips? Do you have any experience with how the grips cope with hot and humid conditions or advice on how to prevent any problems like mould? Thank you, faithfully | Anna Hillcoat A> The grips have a very thick leather and so far nobody has ever had issues with durability, also when left under heavy showers. Humidity is an issue with the saddles, not with the grips.
Q > What is the range that these grips can be adjusted? I'm looking for a total width of 70mm. A > The grips are 130 mm long, but can be shortened to virtually any length. They are delivered in a box containing spokes to reduce them to 80 mm or shorter. The thread should be long enough to cut the spokes to 70 mm, but in case you can always re-thread the spokes.
Q - Why so expensive!? A - Expensive compared to what? To a plastic grip? Quality of materials, manufacturing, and final product involve a certain price.
Q - Are these flexible? Like if your bars have a curve in them could you still use them? A - No, our grips are not very flexible. We would not recommend them if you have curved bars.
Q - Do these grips exist in different length? Can I buy a long and a short one together? A - The grips come only in one length, but are designed to be adjusted. You can cut them to the desired length and in the box we supply instructions on how to shorten them.
Q > Can these be used with Bar Ends? It looks like they have a non-removable end on them.
A > No, they can't be used with bar ends.
I have been using these grips for 3 years now, they are quite comfortable but when the "spokes" loosen up it is very difficult to tighten them back up because when you use a screwdriver on the other end of the spoke the spoke pokes through the middle of the tensioning nut as such so unless you have a special tool or fine pliers it is not easy to get the right tension. Also when you tighten the spoke rod the outer spoke comes away from its recess making it even harder to tension, a solution to this problem would be to thread the spoke in the opposite direction that way you would apply tension on the spoke keeping the spoke in the recess or inverse the recess.
